Island Peak

Island Peak (6,160m/20,210 ft), originally known as Imja Tse is perhaps the most popular climbing peak in the Everest region. The Island Peak is so named because of its striking location in the centre of the Chhukung valley. It emerges  like an Island on a sea of ice. Island peak is located above the Chukung glacier between Mt Ama Dablam and Mt Lhotse. At 6189m it is one of the highest and challenging popular peaks.

Difficulty

This is not an easy route, however reaching the summit guarantees a massive sense of achievement and affords incredible views. Upon summiting the mountain you will have an attractive view of the highest glaciated west face from the Lotse glacier.

The Trek

Your Journey starts with a spectacular half-hour fight from Kathmandu to the amazing mountain air-strip at Lukla. From Lukla your trek proceeds through Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche & finally the Chhukung valley.

The route up the Chhukung valley  leads you to  island peak base camp, your most awaited dream destination. You will also get an opportunity to see the fast growing Imja Lake nearby close to Island Peak base camp.

You can go directly to Island Peak however you may wish to visit Everest base Camp first. If you are less experienced in climbing peaks this may be a preferred option. This itinerary, as for all peaks, requires a good level of physical fitness and careful acclimatisation before attempting the climb.
