Kathmandu
In Kathmandu it seems that around every corner there is something to see. Kathmandu boasts no less than seven UNESCO cultural heritage sites. Its buildings and monuments display a significant variety of historic and artistic accomplishment.
Besides the more obvious landmarks there are far too many temples and places of interest to the list. We are therefore very keen to help you discover more than the normal tourist package. For many a trip to Nepal would be incomplete without delving deeper into the culture and lifestyle of Nepal.
Other options
But it’s not all about these architectural and cultural wonders!
You will have many opportunities to engage in a wide range of spiritual and sporting activities. Mountains encompass the Kathmandu valley. These mountains have a vast and too often overlooked potential for adventure.
Chitwan
Chitwan National Park ( formerly Royal Chitwan National Park) was the first national park in Nepal. Established in 1973 it was granted the status of a World Heritage Site in 1984. It covers an area of 932 km2 (360 sq miles). The park is located in the subtropical Inner Terai lowlands of south-central Nepal. It lies in the districts of Nawalparasi , Parsa, Chitwan and Makwanpur.
Activities
Elephant back safari is the most popular and adventurous way to encounter the scores of wild animals in the park. These range from rare one-horned rhinos to elusive Royal Bengal Tigers besides hundreds of species of birds and reptiles.
The experienced Mahouts will take you deep into the forest to ensure more close up sightings of animals. We therefore believe this is the best way to make your journey more enjoyable.
Of the two elephant-breeding centres that exist in the world one lies in the Chitwan National Park. In Nepal the elephant is fast becoming endangered therefore the centre was established to help increase its numbers. You will also no doubt have an opportunity to visit the breeding centre.
Jungle walks provide great opportunities to view the wild animals close up, and bird watching is definitely best on foot.
Pokhara
Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal. It is famous for boating, trekking, rafting and extreme sports like rafting, canyoning and bungee jumping. The Pokhara Valley encompasses Pokhara city, parts of Sarangkot, Kaskikot and the Phewa Lake.
Phewa Lake is the second largest lake in Nepal. The reflection of Mount Macchapucchre (Fishtail) can be seen on this lake. Also from Phewa Lake you can witness the two-storied temple of Barahi Bhagwati. This temple is located on an island in the middle of the lake.
Likewise, Pokhara is very famous for Paragliding, Ultralight flight, Bungee jumping and Trekking
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be warmly greeted by a representative from Apoorva tours. YesToday you will be visiting some of the many places of interest around Kathmandu, for example:
The Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most important Temples in the world for Hindu devotees and it is located close to a location for Hindu cremations on the banks of Bagmati River.
This highly decorative Hindu Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. The Temple features a pagoda style of architecture and has a gilded roof, its silver plated entrance doors are guarded by statues of various deities In the rafters you can see effigies of various members of Shiva’s family. However, whilst only Hindus are permitted inside the Temple its exterior is remarkable and well worth the visit. Outside you will see many Sadhus (holy men), and during February or March the annual festival Maha Shivaratri which is dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva is celebrated here.
The Boudhanath Stupa – is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the holiest Tibetan Buddhist Temple outside Tibet. The main section is over 328ft (100m) in diameter and its length is about 360ft (120m). Boudhanath is one of the largest Stupa in the world, it has 4 eyes to represent the all-seeing ability of the Buddha; they face four prime directions constantly seeking out human success and virtuous behaviour. Nirvana is represented by the Stupa’s nose.
The Swayambhunath – is an ancient religious Temple site possibly dating back to 460 A.D it is the oldest of its kind in Nepal and important for both Buddhists and Hindus. This Stupa and has many shrines and monasteries on its premises and is widely known as the “Monkey Temple”. This may be due to the colonies of monkeys that live there, or perhaps it is because “Monkey Temple” is much easier to pronounce than “Swayambhunath”.

YesWe drive back to Kathmandu along the spectacular Prithvi Highway which winds through 128 miles (206km) of traditional Middle Hills countryside and past some of Nepal’s finer attractions including The Manakamana Devi temple which is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Bhagawati who is believed to be an incarnation of goddess Parvati.
The derivation of the name Manakamana is a combination of the words Mana (meaning heart) and Kamana (a wish ). This is because worshippers believe that the Goddess Manakamana is able to grant their hearts wishes.
It is worth checking out the fascinating story behind the legend of Manakamana Goddess.
Access to the temple is now fortunately by cable car thus avoiding a particularly strenuous climb.
When we arrive at Kathmandu you will check into your hotel after which you will have some free time to wander and explore the streets, shops and sights of Thamel.
