The Reserve
Parsa wildlife reserve is a popular safari destination in the lowlands of south-central Nepal and it is furthermore a protected area.
The People
The Nepal Terai is home to the ethnic group known as the Tharu people who are recognized as an official nationality by the Nepalese Government
Location
The park is located to the east of the Royal Chitwan National Park and is spread over 499 sq km. The terrain consists of both hills and flat-lands. The Reserve has a sub-tropical monsoon climate and its forest is therefore made up of tropical to subtropical forest woodland.
Flora and Fauna
The trees are predominantly sal, with other species like Chir Pine, Sissoo and Khair. The remainder is mainly comprised of grasslands. This reserve also has Tigers, Leopards, Sloth Bears, Wild Dogs (dhole), Blue Bull (nilgai), Hog Beer and Barking Deer. It also is home to over 300 species of birds, including the endangered giant hornbill and the Bengal florican. Snakes found are cobras, kraits and pythons. Here,

We will drive from Kathmandu to Simra which is about 120 KM from Kathmandu and the journey takes around 5 hours. The road is single track and the scenic journey passes through dense pine forests and passes farmed terraces as it makes its way through the Churia Hills which reach 2,000 Metres above sea level.
It is an exciting journey as the road is dotted with sharp hairpin bends and is frequently edged by deep valleys.
Once we arrive at Simra you will have some spare time to explore the town and maybe visit the Hanuman Temple.

At the Reserve headquarters there is a view tower (machan) and from here you will have an excellent opportunity to view the wildlife for game viewing.
ELEPHANT SAFARI: From an elephant camp which is located near Amlekhgunj you can take advantage of the best way to view the wildlife close up. Perched high on the back of an elephant you can explore the parks amazing savannah, forests and fauna.
CANOE EXPEDITION: Now you have a wonderful opportunity to view an amazing and beautiful wealth of nature’s creatures. There will be a host of wildlife including reptile’s birds and other animals. Bothe the Gharial and the Mugger crocodiles inhabit the surrounds of the river.
VILLAGE Experience: The Tharu people have lived in this region in harmony with nature for many centuries. A visit to the Tharu village Museum region will give you an insight into their unique culture and traditions.
SAFARI DRIVE: In order to spot some of the rarer species you will be driven deep into the nether regions of the reserve.

The reserve is a paradise for ornithologists and is home to around 500 species of birds including the endangered great horn bill the peafowl, Giant pied hornbill, red jungle fowl, paradise flycatchers, woodpecker as well as a host of other species. The reserve houses a number of watch towers which offer excellent viewing opportunities.
From September to November and from February to April, the variety of birds in the reserve is boosted as migratory birds combine with the residential birds to create a delightful profusion of bird watching opportunities.
