OVERVIEW

For The Trip Alone

Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve consists of forests, marshland and meadows and is host to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Its elevation varies from 2,850m to 5,500m. The Snow Leopard is very shy and therefore one of the reserves more noteworthy species. Well-developed mixed-hardwood forests at lower elevations typify the area’s vegetation. There are many plant species of drier climate to the north. Tree species include fir, pine, birch, rhododendron, hemlock, oak, juniper and spruce.

As in many other protected environments of Nepal, the reserve includes several villages inhabited by hill tribes. There are also people of Tibetan descent who supplement farming with trade and in addition animal husbandry. The reserve is one of the prime habitats of blue sheep, a highly prized trophy animal. Other species include Ghoral, Serow, Himalayan Tahr, Black Bear, Pheasant and Partridge. Endangered species of the area include the Red Panda and Cheer Pheasant.
